Is Renaissance Wax Safe to Use for Jewelry?
Tweet Renaissance wax polish was developed by the boffins (English slang for scientists) at the British Museum in the 1950’s. The natural waxes used for conserving museum exhibits unfortunately also contained acids which over time compromised the finishes of historic furniture collections. So they came up with a new type of microcrystalline wax refined from crude oil which solved the problem. Since then other micro-crystalline waxes have appeared on the market and they are used to protect a wide range of materials including metals. It’s fine for museum exhibits of jewelry, armor and so forth but is it fine for jewelry that’s worn and for the artisan who is working with it? Many artisans are already using renaissance wax to keep their metal jewelry shiny longer. They apply a very small amount and then buff the jewelry with a soft cloth. I was curious as keeping my display jewelry tarnish free is such a chore. So I bought some. Then I looked more carefully at what it actually contained.

What you’ll need: Cardboard Paper or Cardstock Scissors or Craft Knife Glue or Doublestick Tape Paint or fabric For Necklace Bust: 1. Draw a template on paper or cardstock, I made several of these so made my template on cardstock and it has held up very well. Cut out. 2. Trace your pattern onto your cardboard. Cut out. It’s up to you how to cover it, you can spray paint it, brush paint, or cover it with fabric or felt. I’ve done all three and they all look good. This example was brush painted with black acrylic craft paint. 3. To make the stand, cut a strip of cardboard and score three times: 1/4 inch up from one edge, 3/4 inches up from that and then half way up the remaining distance. Fold inward and attach small flap to the edge that folds down to create a triangle. Attatch to the back of your bust with glue or tape. For Bracelet/ Ring Display: 1. Trace your hand with fingers splayed and up your arm a bit onto your cardboard and cut out. Paint.

My necklaces
Iwrote a few weeks ago about how my necklaces have become symbols for me. They give me strength. I’ve added a couple more, and thought I’d share my favorites. My necklace display board is an old bulletin board. I stuck in pushpins and hang my necklaces. This keeps them from getting tangled, and it just makes me happy to see them hanging there each morning before I leave for work. This is one of my first necklaces. It’s a Lisa Leonard . It had tarnished pretty badly, but I found it last weekend and shined it up. Put a new 24″ chain on it. Love it. These are two of my newest. The one on the left has the kids’ names on it, and the star is kind of my thing. I love the stars. They make me dream. The one on the right is by Chantelle Nicole . The other is by Daisy Metal Creations . I can’t even explain how much I love her work.

I thought about the serene picture of sherbety necklace lady while I stood in line at WalMart between a screaming grown-up and a screaming baby, the girls and I both wearing damp bathing suits under our clothes. We couldn’t exactly find silk at WalMart, our last resort, but we were relieved to find fabric of any kind. Plus, we’re too tough for sherbet hues. We wear damp bathing suits in public, for heaven’s sake!** I think Sachi looks pretty serene here, though. Toughly serene. So we settle on a gold faux silk and a black broadcloth (I realized later on that these are the colors of both my husband’s and my alma maters. Woot! Delayed school spirit realizations!), stop by Cam’s studio to record the girls singing so that he can use their voices on a fast food commercial (woot! Pawns!), come home, and get right to ripping up fabric. We weren’t sure how best to secure the necklaces once we had all these yards of braided fabric, so we sorta winged it.

Police identify jewelry theft suspect who led Oregon City officers in Interstate 205 chase

Riverside CA Dec 13 2010 A parolee and his female accomplice allegedly stole a large amount of jewelry from a Sears department store in Spring Valley, and then tried to run from security guards and deputies, the Sheriff’s Department said today. Security officers at the Sears at 931 Sweetwater Rd. were able to detain Jennifer Vargas, 29, but could not corral Daniel Lopez, 38, as he fled the from the scene shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, said San Diego sheriff’s Lt. Marco Garmo. The security officers were able to flag down some sheriff’s deputies, who began to chase Lopez on foot, Garmo said. At one point during the foot chase, Lopez tried to break into a minivan, but was thrown out by the vehicle’s occupants, said sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Davis. When that proved unsuccessful, Lopez ran across the state Route 125, where authorities closed a portion of the freeway for a short time to allow a sheriff’s helicopter, a San Diego police dog unit and the California Highway Patrol to search for Lopez.

Guest post written by Heather Kline Since I started collecting a whole lot of jewelry lately, I’ve just been keeping most of it in shoeboxes organized by what type of jewelry, like bracelets, necklaces, rings, etc. I do have a jewelry box but it stopped holding my jewelry collection a long time ago. I go through phases of when I’ll buy certain things and I guess that right now it’s just my jewelry phase. But now that I’ve spent so much time and money in my collection, I think that I should do something and storing it in a better way. I went searching online for some kind of jewelry storage solution that I could find and while I was doing that I came across some website Topearl and after reading it, I chose to change over my internet service to it. Well, I found all kinds of stuff, but I wanted to use the ones that show off my jewelry. So I went with this DIY jewelry organizer that was actually super quick and really easy to make.

Yesterday I showed you my crib curbside find that I made into a subway art scripture sign. Then I teased you with the glass knob on it, pulling you in, hoping you’d come back today to see WHAT IS BEHIND DOOR #1!. I decided to make a jewelry organizer with the crib as the door. Yes it is big but it serves two purposes � art and storage. My favorite combination, and I can’t tell you how much I adore it! So this where I left you yesterday…with the crib side all painted and stenciled with a scripture verse. Next I built the jewelry organizer frame behind it. Here is how I did it. Supplies: old crib side (2) 1 x 4’s 1/4” luan cut to fit the back of your frame 1/2” x 2’s poplar (I used six 3′ pieces) air brad nailer air paint sprayer wood glue 3/4” cup hooks (I used 67 of them) electric drill drill
